Skates and Popcorn

Today the subway smelled just like a skating rink---like sweaty bodies, popcorn, and jolly ranchers. I can account for the sweaty bodies, but I'm not sure where the popcorn and candy smells originated. I'm sure it would be a janitor's worst nightmare, but being able to buy popcorn in the subway would be fantastic! Especially if it tasted like what you get at the movie theaters. I have to admit that I'm the kind of person who will splurge and go see a movie, just so I can sit in the theater and munch on warm, tasty, salty, buttery magnificence. At most HK theaters, they sell salty and sweet popcorn (the sweet is kind of like a mix between kettle corn and carmel corn), and they even let you order a mixed bag of both. Oh, it's delightful. Who knew Asians were such popcorn practitioners? On a related note, I don't think I've eaten a jolly rancher in several years. How can that be?

And I digress. Sorry it's been 11 days since I last wrote. I'm back and more full of nonsense than ever.

I'm so glad you're back. I was about to write to you and demand more posts! :-) I want to hear how the new job is going! Is it getting warm and steamy in HK, yet? Your subscribers have so many questions!

jolly ranchers make me think of road trips. we always had a huge bag of them on family vacations. that's the only time i ever ate them. the path station where we lived in jersey always smelled like pancakes & syrup to me. yum.

"It's been 11 days since my last post." It sounds like you're going to blog confession. :)

I ate a Jolly Rancher today! We have them at the reception counter at work... They are extremely time consuming to eat. ...and dangerous really... the choking and enamal breaking elements and all... Of course that's what makes it an adventure.

Sometimes one of the stations here smells like a Christmas ham. Maybe they pump in the smells from somewhere to give people good associations. Although I don't think Christmas hams are very popular here.

Don't hurt yourself! But if you get the chance, eat a strawberry or apple JR in my honor.

Cinnamon and butterscotch Jolly Ranchers were my favorite purchase at the Salina roller skating rink. I can't find the butterscotch JRs any longer. It makes me sad. Glad you made it home safely. So good to see you!
